Wood Carver Event

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

A big thanks to everyone who helped with the May 30th exhibit of Cindy Lewis and Mark Holland’s bird and floral carvings.  And a special thanks to those artists who donated items for the silent auction, to the musicians, Gan Ainm, who caused a lot of foot tapping during the afternoon, and to Tom, whose food is still being talked about.  We had about 100 visitors, with 1/3 of them from outside the Klamath Basin, which is excellent for this small community.

Two Rivers Gallery Spring Newsletter, April 2009

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Hello everyone,

Well the daffodils are flowering, and there’ve been a few warm days, but when the white-front geese continue on with their trek to Alaska, we’ll know that spring has really come.

The Gallery has exciting news. Our new website should be launched by the time you are reading this newsletter. Take a look – the new address is www.chiloquinarts.com. If you have any comments we want to hear them, and you can even take advantage of the ‘Leave a Reply’ function to leave a comment on specific posts for events, announcements, classes and newsletters. You’ll find all of this on the Events page. There will be just a few of you who can’t find your listing on the Artists page, and that’s because we didn’t have any photos of your artwork. We decided that rather than have a blank spot where your photo should be, we’d just wait and add you when we were able to get a photo. If you have different photos you’d like to use, or a bio or website address to add, please email them to us, and we’ll get them added just as soon as we learn how to do it! The website was professionally designed and after a training session we’ll be able to maintain the site ourselves, keeping it updated in a much more timely manner than was possible with the old website. For those of you who have your own website, we have added a link on your page, and would much appreciate it if you would also link to us from your site.

In May we are holding a fundraising event which is different from events we have held in the past. We are very fortunate that Cindy Lewis and Mark Holland have decided to settle down in the Chiloquin area after a lifetime spent roaming the country following the birds. They do just exquisite bird and floral carvings, which up until this time they have sold mostly on the East Coast. They have agreed to exhibit their carvings on Saturday May 30th in the Community Center in Chiloquin, from 1 pm ‘til 4 pm. We will also have Irish and French Canadian music by a group of musicians from Ashland, a no-host wine bar and refreshments. There will be a silent auction of artwork donated by Two Rivers Gallery members. There is still time to donate an item for the auction, and if you would like to do so, we would be thrilled to include it. Please try to come, see the wonderful carvings, listen to some foot-tapping music, drink a little wine, nibble on some goodies. Tickets are $5 per person.

The other fundraising event this year will be the yard sale, to be held in August. Please save up items to donate to the sale. We’ll post more information on the website as we get closer to August.

Fundraising is an important part of our program this year. The economy has had noticeable effects on art sales as you can well imagine. We’re hoping that sales will pick up in the summer when there are tourists about, and the optimists among us do see promising signs that the downward spiral is lessening.

The Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday June 7th at the gallery, from 1 pm ‘til 3 pm. It will be a potluck lunch, so please bring a dish and join us. There will be some business to conduct, but also friends to see and no doubt, great food! The Board positions for election this year are:

President: Joan Rowe
Vice-President: Gerda Minetti
Secretary: Kathy Adams
Treasurer: Mary Kelley
Board Members:Gay Jarvinen
Charlie Matuk
Nicky Biehn

We are 2 Board members short and so also need to ratify a change to the bylaws to allow decisions to be made by a majority of the currently serving Board members, rather than the present wording which requires that 5 members be present to vote on any issues.

If you are interested in serving on the Board, please join us at a Board meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 10 am at the gallery to get an idea of what is involved. We promise not to draft you on the spot!

Spring is also the time when memberships need to be renewed. We have a few different options:
[ ] ARTIST Annual membership fee of $35 (tax deductible)
[ ] FAMILY Annual membership fee of $60 (tax deductible) Good for up to 3 family members residing
in the same household. Each family member must complete an application.
[ ] NO FEE MEMBER Available for the first year of membership, no membership fee is collected but
commission rates are 10% higher than for fee paying members.

If you are renewing a membership please fill out the included form and return it to us at PO Box 382, Chiloquin OR 97624 with your check or money order, or bring it in and use your credit card. If yours is a new membership, please download the application on the Membership page of the website and follow the directions there for submitting the application, or come into the gallery and pick up an application. A volunteer will be able to explain all the details.

Volunteers are always needed. If you would like to help out by volunteering, it will reduce your commission and also help us greatly. There is no minimum time commitment. Anything you can do will be appreciated.

Be sure to bring in new artwork when you have it available. The gallery is looking terrific, and we get lots of great comments on the quality of the artwork. We like to keep rotating the work so that repeat customers feel that they are walking into a new gallery each time they come.

Enjoy the spring and the coming warm weather and sunshine,

The TRVA Board
