Susan Massini has been a member of Collective Visions, an art quilt group, for three years. Do stop by Two RIvers Gallery and view these quilts up close. The detail is fascinating.
Collective Visions is an art quilt group whose projects resemble works of art rather than traditional quilts. The traditional three layers (top, batting and backing) found in quilts is maintained however the art takes over with original design and innovative embellishments including paints, inks, beads, yarns and special fibers.
“Grandma’s Big Catch”, designed and quilted by Kathy Adams, depicts a camping scene Kathy created from photographs (shown below) that her grandfather took in the 1950′s. It features Kathy’s grandma, the big striped bass she caught, and their very modern 1950′s house trailer.

The weather may be dismal as usual for this time of year, but we are feeling a little more upbeat at the gallery. Art sales, although always slow in the winter, are not nearly as slow as they were last winter. Maybe we will finally get to put this recession behind us.
Another summer gone, and unfortunately, it was not the best one for the gallery. There were not many tourists about this year, and those that were about kept the purse strings tightly under control.
What a gloomy spring it’s been; not one full day of sunshine for the whole month of March. It’s kept the tourists at home, and sales at the gallery have suffered as a result. The first 3 months of the year are usually a very slow time for us, but this year has been one [...]
