It’s been a long time coming, but summer is finally here. The long cool spring not only slowed down plants in the garden, but also tourists to this area, so gallery sales have been slow. Hopefully now that the weather is warmer, we’ll see more tourists coming through.

The Annual General Meeting took place in May and new Officers and Board members were elected. Leaving the Board was Kathy Adams. Kathy’s 6 year term was up and she deserves the break, though she is missed. Luckily for us, she is still continuing as our accountant. New Board members are Diane Eldridge, Alison Litts and Jan Voyles. Continuing Board members are Nicky Biehn, Mary Kelley, Charlie Matuk, Gail Ragsdale, Joan Rowe and Sandi Selk. Officers are Joan Rowe (President), Mary Kelley (Treasurer), Alison Litts (Secretary). The Vice-President position is open, but for the first time in some years we have a full Board of 9 members, so that is very encouraging.

With the start of the new membership year, we have gained a few members, and also lost a few, so that membership is remaining fairly constant. With our new members we have been able to add large fused glass pieces and also large stained glass pieces to our display, along with additional watercolor and oil paintings, photographs and beaded pieces.

Gallery members and volunteers at the yard sale.

The gallery is now also an official Oregon ‘Visitor Information’ stop, and quite a few tourists have been in looking for maps and places of interest. We are lucky to have the 30 Mile Club newsletter ‘Now that I’m here’ to hand out to people. It’s packed full of information about this area.

The yard sale in June was a success, raising about $500 to help with the operating expenses for the gallery. Many thanks to those of you who donated items for the sale, and to the volunteers who spent their valuable Saturday time in hauling everything out to the parking lot, sitting at the sale for the day and then carrying all those tables back in again!

On Saturday August 28th, 2010 Two Rivers Gallery presents artists and their artwork at our Second Annual ‘Meet the Artists’ fundraiser. The event will be held in the Chiloquin Community Center, 140 So. 1st St., from 1 pm ‘til 4 pm. You will have a chance to meet artists in several different mediums and ask any questions you may have about how the artists create their work. Featured this year will be a Bead Artist (Diane Eldridge), Woodworker (Wolf Hodgkinson), Origami Expert (Barbara Turner) Watercolor artist (Janet Tarjan Erl) and award winning Quilt Artist (Joanne Bathe). Returning this year is Gan Ainm, a French Canadian band from Ashland who kept the feet tapping at last year’s event. There will also be a silent auction of artwork donated by Two Rivers Gallery members. And once again a tasty variety of refreshments will be served. Don’t miss this fun and informative afternoon. And, your attendance also supports our gallery and many local artists. Tickets are $5 per person. Contact Two Rivers Gallery at 541-783-3326 or info@chiloquinarts.com for more information. If you have a piece or artwork that you’d like to donate to the silent auction, please contact the gallery and leave a message with the volunteer on duty.

Although we have lost a couple of volunteers, we are still keeping the gallery open 7 days/week over the summer. A BIG thank you to those volunteers who have stepped in to fill the gaps!

Don’t forget to check here on the website or our Facebook page for the latest information on events and classes.

Thanks to you all for your support of Two Rivers Gallery, and enjoy your summer!

The corn dolls are inticate and exquisite, and the pine-needle baskets incorporate jade, shells, buttons….

Wolf, of Watchwolf Creations, creates beautiful carved and polished wood items, ranging from functional desk sets, clocks, wine bottle cradles and walking sticks to decorative feathers; a collection of useful, and sometimes whimsical things carefully hand-made exclusively from Oregon Mountain Manzanita. In addition, Wolfprints are his original works of digitally fashioned prints on rag canvas with a high-resolution art pigment printer. Each print is a signed original, not a lithographed copy.

I’m writing this on a cold, snowy, blustery day at the end of March, but I can see my neighbor’s daffodils so I guess it must be spring!

Despite the mild winter that we’ve had, the gallery has not seen many visitors yet, but that is normal and no cause for concern. We ended 2009 pretty much right on budget, and were happy about that, considering the slow economy, especially in this area.

Membership renewal

This is the time of year when we come to you for membership renewals. 2010 membership begins on May 1st, and we would like to receive your dues in April. There has been no change in dues; it is still $35. There is a renewal form included with this newsletter. It is also helpful to us to know if you will not be renewing, so if that’s the case could you drop us an email at 2riversart@centurytel.net, or give us a call at 541-783-3326and remember to pick up your artwork before May 31st – thanks!

There are a few events coming up that you should know about:

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting will be held on Sunday May 2nd in the Gallery classroom from noon to 2pm. It will be a potluck, so please bring a dish to share. We will be electing new Officers and Board Members for 2010. If you are interested in participating in the operation of the gallery, please call any of the current Board Members and let us know. (Just call the gallery and the volunteer on duty will be able to give you Board Member names and phone numbers.) Then it will be time for eating and socializing – please join us – we’d love to see you there.

Yard Sale Fundraiser

Our annual yard sale fundraiser will be held on Saturday June 5th 2010, starting around 8:30 a.m. and running into the afternoon. It will be held in the parking lot next to the Gallery in the Chiloquin Community Center at 140 So. 1st St, Chiloquin, Oregon. This is a change from our regular date in August, to the day of the entire town yard sale, making a trip to Chiloquin well worth the trip for yard sale fans. Since this is a fundraiser, items are donated by many people, so there will be lots of variety, and some great bargains.

Please start bringing in your yard sale items now. Donations are needed and greatly appreciated…so please let us know what you can donate. It would be very helpful if you could price the items before you bring them in.

Two Rivers Village Arts presents “Meet the Artists”

Ever visit a gallery and wonder how an artist creates his work or have questions you’d love to ask if only you could talk to the creator of that wonderful piece of art? You will have your chance on Saturday August 28th when Two Rivers Gallery presents artists and their artwork at our Second Annual ‘Meet the Artists’ fundraiser. The event will be held in the Chiloquin Community Center, 140 So. 1st St., from 1 pm ‘til 4 pm. In attendance this year will be a Bead Artist (Diane Eldridge), Woodworker (Wolf Hodgkinson), Origami Expert (Barbara Turner) and award winning Quilt Artist (Joanne Bathe). Returning this year is Gan Ainm, a French Canadian band from Ashland who kept the feet tapping at last year’s event. There will also be a silent auction of artwork donated by Two Rivers Gallery members. And once again a tasty variety of refreshments will be served. You won’t want to miss this fun and informative afternoon. And, your attendance also supports our gallery and many local artists. Tickets are $5 per person.

If you are willing to donate an artwork piece for the silent auction, please contact the Gallery and leave a message for one of the Board Members.

Two Rivers Treasures

Two Rivers Treasures our new fundraising venture, opened last December and we have been selling items from the shop. Gallery members may participate by filling out a Treasures application. We don’t want anything brought in and left to be looked at later but we encourage you to bring in anything of good quality that you would like to sell when a Board member will be present to approve it. If you call in advance you can have the volunteer look at the calendar and tell you when a Board Member will be working. Since this is a fundraiser for the gallery, there is a 40% commission taken on all sales from Treasures, and this is not reduced by volunteer hours. More information and an application are available in the Membership section of the gallery webpage, or come in and pick up an application.

Tourist Information

You will notice that the gallery now has a “Tourist Information” sign posted by the door. We have just got the signs after a couple of years of waiting. There will be a display of tourist brochures set up in the gallery and in the library.

In addition to brochures and newspapers on this area there are some great websites that have made an appearance in the last year.

* The 30 Mile Club, which publishes the Newspaper “What Do I Do Now That I’m Here’ has just launched a wonderful website for locals and tourists alike. You’ll find it at http://www.thingstodonearcraterlake.com/

* Jim Litts has a great website http://www.chiloquin.us/ that has comprehensive information on the wetlands and also outdoor activities in the area.

* Pat Lanctot has just redone the http://www.chiloquin.com/ website which includes information on all the businesses in Chiloquin.

* And of course, Two Rivers Gallery has their website at http://www.chiloquinarts.com/ where you will find membership information and a page for every artist who displays artwork in the Gallery.

There are also a number of Facebook fan pages that have come into existence in the last year

Two Rivers Gallery – Two Rivers Village Arts

Chiloquin, Oregon

Thank You!

Thank you all for the wonderful art you have brought in to the gallery. It speaks wonders for the quality of the work that we are able to meet our budget in such lean times.

And a special thank you to all the volunteers who have made it in to ‘work’ regardless of rain or snow, through the long winter. We have been closed on Mondays because of the lack of volunteers to fill all the hours, but we have had such a good turnout of volunteers that we have decided to open on Mondays for the summer. Remember – summer hours begin in May – Mon-Sat: 10 am to 5 pm, Sun: 11 am to 4 pm.

The annual general meeting will be held on Sunday May 2nd 2010 in the Gallery classroom from noon to 2pm.
